Mombasa is well-known for its pristine beaches and its beautiful shade of aquamarine water.  The spectacular beaches play a huge role in attracting visitors to Kenya’s second-largest city. Nyali Beach is located in northern Mombasa, in the residential area of Nyali.  You will find many luxury hotels along this long stretch of white sands with coral reefs and golden palms. Sports activities such as beach volleyball, jet skiing, windsurfing, kite surfing and scuba diving are also popular here.

3. Tiwi Beach

You will find this tropical paradise on the south coast and it keeps a relatively low profile. Tiwi Beach presents good snorkelling opportunities and the reef lies just a little offshore. It makes for a quiet, peaceful escape because it’s usually less crowded.

4. Bamburi Beach

Bamburi features a pristine beach with a long stretch of white sands backed by palm trees, crystal-clear turquoise water, and an offshore reef. 8. Kikambala Beach

Kikambala is a beautiful, quiet unspoilt sandy beach surrounded by coconut palm trees, and protected by a long coral reef. It is located north of the city and offers a wide range of activities to enjoy. There are few hotels and resorts situated on the beach. But the area is spacious and you can easily relax and unwind on the dunes.

9. Kuruwitu Beach

The surrounding area of Kuruwitu Beach is mainly dense forests and palm-trees line this sandy beach. It is relatively lesser known compared to its peers above. As such you will find plenty of space here and a very homely, welcoming atmosphere. The coral reef is in good condition and one can explore the colourful plants on the glass boat ride or while diving or snorkelling. Beach hotels and private houses are also available.

10. Vipingo Beach

The Vipingo area has a coastal forest that meets the sandy beaches and old coral cliffs. Locals in the Swahili villages offer accommodation in guesthouses and there are also beach houses for the same. It is less crowded and therefore good for downtime. For history lovers, there are old tombs and mosques to explore. You will also find a major attraction, which overlooks the sisal plantations and the ocean called the Vipingo Ridge. It features a golf course, a variety of accommodation and dining options.
