Tanzania is an ideal destination for a golfing getaway with some of the best courses in East Africa. Whether you are an avid golfer or a learner, you will find yourself a golf course with superb scenery and excellent play in the country. There are several championship-level golf courses for professionals as well as some public courses for average hackers.

1. Kilimanjaro Golf and Wildlife Estate

Quite literally majestic and magnificent, this over 1000 acres of a golf course is situated between Mt. Meru and Mt. Kilimanjaro. Needless to say, the views are spectacular. The estate has a golf club with an 18-hole championship golf course, which is the first in Tanzania. Kiligolf hosts local and international tournaments, club nights and other golfing events. In and around the golf course there are well-designed properties available for sale and one such purchase entitles one to direct membership at the golf club.

2. Sea Cliff Golf Club

This golf resort is the only one on the island of Zanzibar on the northwest side. The resort has a 9-hole Matkovitch course with practice greens, under-cover driving range and a club house. The beach forms a beautiful background for this course as the course finds its way around through a mangrove swamp and an old sand quarry. Tee off and enjoy spectacular views as you play the two of the last holes along the Indian Ocean.

3. Misenyi Golf and Country Club

This golf club is located in the Bukoba, Kagera region of Tanzania. It is a semi-privately owned club and has an 18-hole course. The club plays host to several tournaments including the Monthly Mug tournament. Misenyi Golf Club make full use of its surrounding views and offers challenging greens created to give you a run for your money.  

4. Kilombero Golf Course

Kilombero Golf Course is located in the Kidatu area of Morogoro in Tanzania. It is a Donald Ross classic 9-hole course with nicely manicured lawns. A clubhouse is available for both members and non-members for social interactions. The golf course is open to both professional golfers as well as learners who may want to indulge in the game.

5. TPC Moshi Golf Course

With a 9-hole course, TPC Moshi Golf Course is located near Moshi, within the oldest sugar plantation in Tanzania. It is nestled at the foot of Mt Kilimanjaro, and it is the only golf course in the world with the beautiful views of the mountain. The club offers a wide range of facilities in its 4500 hectare Wilderness Area such as a large swimming pool, tennis lawn and a restaurant. You can also indulge in a variety of exciting activities such as cycling, playing tennis, swimming in the pool and bird watching.  

6. Lugalo Golf Course

It’s an 18-hole course found in the Mikocheni area of Dar es Salaam. Lugalo Golf Course also plays host to both club and national competitions. It is also one of the golf clubs that promotes junior golfing programmes through its Junior Golf Foundations programmes.

7. Mufindi Golf Club

This is a 9-hole course found in Mufindi Club in Mufindi, Iringa Tanzania. The clubhouse provides for entertainment and relaxation right after that winning tee. It also hosts tournaments such as the national level Mufindi Open supported by the Tanzania National Park Authority.

8. Morogoro Gymkhana Golf Club

This particular 9-hole course is said to be fun but challenging! It has a tricky layout featuring a number of small bumps, trees and a creek that runs through a section of the course. The difficulty levels make for an enjoyable and thrilling experience for golf lovers especially those that have mastered the game.

9. Moshi Gymkhana Golf Club

Featuring a 9-hole course, this is one of the oldest golf courses in Tanzania and is a property of Moshi Club which was established in 1920. It is located at the footsteps of Mt Kilimanjaro with many trees, fairways and a couple of doglegs and sits on 90 acres of land.

10. Lake Victoria Golf Club

This one is a 9-hole golfing course located inside the Lake Victoria Golf and Country Club in Geita. The course has beautiful views of Lake Victoria and offers a challenging layout and enjoyable golfing experience for the avid golfer as well as a learner. There is also a clubhouse, a restaurant, and a bar to cater for golfers social aspects.
