  7. Top Places to Visit...

Kenya is synonymous with gruelling safaris crossing expansive plains, voyaging through the exotic wildlife. It is an action-adventure packed ride for the wildlife adventurer. There are many amazing safaris you can go on to see the amazing animals in their natural habitats. Some of the many known places that come into mind are Maasai Mara, Lake Nakuru, and Amboseli Natural Reserve.

Although no trip is complete without visiting these marvellous places, here are a few hidden gems you may want to check out. These are some of the top places to visit in Kenya if you want to travel like a local.

Rusinga Travel Lodge

Rusinga Island is located in Lake Victora (the 2nd largest freshwater lake globally). Given its stature in the world of freshwater bodies, Lake Victoria itself is a sight to behold. Rusinga Travel Lodge is nestled on the beautiful island. It is a resort that offers tranquillity, beauty, and quality service while also being private and quiet because it is a remote location. It is a perfect getaway to rejuvenate your soul, away from all the hustle and bustle of tourists.

The Chalbi Desert

In the middle of this incredible expanse of the raw desert lies Lake Turkana, the largest desert lake in the world. It is a spectacle to witness this magnificent lake. You will also have an opportunity to interact with some local tribes, such as the El Molo people, a tribe nearing extinction because of their dependency and lifestyle on the lake waters.

Ole Polos

Ole Polos is the go-to restaurant for many locals, yet it is not as popular with tourists because it is located in a secluded area of the Masaai territory in Kajiado County. Ole Polo serves some of the finest local delicacies and roasted meat. Its scenic location also makes this a must-visit place.

Masaai Lodge

After visiting Ole Polos, you may want to check out Masaai Lodge, which is also situated in Kajiado County. Although it may be a bit difficult to get to, it is well worth the effort. From the lodge, you can see a breath-taking view of the Nairobi National Park. Apart from the views, the lodge itself is decorated beautifully. It is an articulate lodge that offers a unique package of peace and harmony that will make you want to keep coming back.

Rolf’s Place

Rolf’s Place is another unique local restaurant that serves fantastic food. The restaurant is located on a cliff. You will need to cross a roped bridge to get to the restaurant, which only adds to the unique experience of visiting this place. Apart from great food and good service, Rolf’s Place also has a paintball facility.

The Gedi Ruins

If you are already exploring Kenya’s beaches, you will know exactly how amazing and peaceful they are. However, they can get crowded because tourists love the beaches. If you happen to find yourself on Watamu Beach, you are in luck because The Gedi Ruins is a few kilometres away from this beach. It is the mystical ruins of what some consider to be a Swahili city. Its history is a mystery, which makes this place so great and exciting to witness.
