Swim with Dolphins and Explore the Jozani Forest in Zanzibar

About the tour

Get up close and personal with dolphins as you take a Kizimkazi boat trip through the Indian Ocean for dolphin spotting. If you are lucky, you can swim and snorkel with them. Then take a trip to Jozani Forest to see the rare red Colobus monkeys and see nature’s magnificence at its best.

Highlights:

  • A Kizimkazi boat trip will get you close to the dolphins and see them as they show off with twists and jumps in the water.
  • Take a trip to Jozani Forest, the home of the rare monkeys and see them scrambling from one tree to another when you visit. You can get very close to these monkeys because they are acclimatised to humans. Bushbaby can be sighted here too.
  • Jozani is a haven of butterflies. The many species of butterflies make the forest an enchanting place during sunset. Bird watching is excellent with up to 40 species of birds.
  • Explore the mangrove boardwalk as it takes you above the swamp. See crabs scuttling across the mud and tropical fish flitting between the mangrove roots.

An hour from Stone Town on the south-east coast, Kizimkazi is known as a hotspot for dolphins.

Following your comprehensive safety briefing, board a traditional ocean-going dhow and set sail while your crew keep a look out for the tell-tale dorsal fins of the dolphin pods. Note that the dolphins are wild creatures, and, as with game spotting on the mainland, nothing can be guaranteed except for a great time on the beautiful ocean, the excitement in the expectation of spotting the dolphins and hopefully getting up close in the water.

Your 2 hours on the boat includes the opportunity to swim/snorkel in the clear waters, after which you’ll return to the beach for a lunch with swimming and snorkelling in the clear waters.

After lunch, you’ll be transported to Jozani forest for an hour guided walk, seeing the jungle life, and taking in the boardwalk through the mangroves where tide dependent you will see the fish below.

What You Should Bring

Beach towel, swim wear, sunblock, sunglasses, hat, and waterproof shoes for exploring the reef at lunch time. Waterproof bag for electronics and phones may come in handy.
