Tour the town enclosed by old buildings of the previous generation, beautiful Arab architecture with thick walls of earth filled with well-carved thick African hardwood door. Wander around Old German Boma, a very impressive building and landmark in Bagamoyo.

Discover the scenery of the Indian Ocean and the dhow harbour nearby. If you’re lucky, you’ll see the fishermen working on their boats when the tide is high. Take a stroll along the beach to see how the locals build boats at the Dhow sailboat building centre

Dining and Dietary Considerations

Bagamoyo offers food rich in spice and love that will make you nostalgic. Chapati with vegetables is an excellent start for tourists. You can even get to participate in cooking Swahili dishes with local Swahili women of Kaole village.

Owing to its sea location, many restaurants in the town serves a good selection of tasty seafood grills and meat, we recommend Nashe’s Cafe and Funky Squids Beach Bar & Grill.

Poa Poa is a great spot for light meals and snacks; Coffees, spiced tea, milkshakes, chapati wraps, pizza and local-style meals are among other offerings.

Religious and Cultural considerations

Religious beliefs are not so much varied in Bagamoyo as the dominant religion is Islam. More than 90% of the population are Muslims.

A weak presence is felt from the churches in this area. Bagamoyo is home to many ethnic groups including people of Arab descent, but the Swahili culture dominates in the town.
