Moshi’s proximity to Kilimanjaro and high altitude keeps the temperature lower than its surrounding areas in Tanzania, making it quite pleasant all year round. Monsoon Rains hits this area twice a year – between December & March and then again from June to September.

Dryer Months are from January to February which is seen as the best time of year in Moshi. Although June to Augusts is the months favoured to embark on a Kilimanjaro Expedition.

Moshi is a laid-back town with lively people. It is most notable to the outside world as the gateway to the Mount Kilimanjaro but there is more to this place than just the highest natural feature in Africa.

The town is filled with coffee and banana plantations. For coffee lovers, you can visit a coffee plantation and see how the coffee is roasted and brewed from the scratch. You can buy coffee beans and take back home with you. This is one of the most amazing experiences in Moshi!

Standing at 5895 km above sea level, Mount Kilimanjaro is ‘head and shoulders’ above the rest of Africa. The challenge to get to the Uhuru peak, which is the roof of the mountain, is a scintillating experience for even the adventurous explorers. The panoramic view from high above is indescribable and mesmerizing. Climbing the mountain takes about a 5 to 10-day journey to the top but it is worth it. Although getting to the top of the mountain is dependent on budget and time.

The Kikuletwa hot spring is located about one and a half hour away from Moshi is one of Tanzania’s hidden gems. The little oasis is a great relaxation spot, hiding away amongst lush fig trees and a dusty safari landscape. The water is crystal clear and the temperature is just perfect for a natural body massage.

Take a day trip to Lake Chala, which is an enchanting lake on Kenya border, which is about two hours’ drive from Moshi. The lake is a perfect place to relax and unwind while you admire the natural surroundings. Don’t forget to visit Moshi Market for some beautiful souvenirs such as Maasai beaded jewellery, curio carvings, wooden bracelets, African printed fabrics, leather beaded sandals, stone keychains, and bags.

One of the attractions of Moshi is the mouth-watering cuisine. It is home to colourful and delicious local food and also serves some of the best of Italian, Indian and Chinese cuisine. Some of the popular local food include Ndizi Kaanga (fried bananas) and the Nyama Choma (roast meat).

Just like most parts of Tanzania, Islam and Christianity are the dominant religions of Moshi. The Roman Catholic Church is very influential in the region and has several buildings and followings.

The Chagga and Pare ethnic groups are most dominant in Moshi and the Masai also have this region as their home.

Football is the most popular sport but in recent times golf is gaining some popularity and Moshi boasts two main golf courses in the city.

Moshi being the hub for the famous Kilimanjaro climbs have a range of accommodation available, from budget to more luxury options.  Restaurants, cafes and coffee shops are also in abundance and there are several ATM’s and banks along Boma Road leading to the clock tower.
