  • The Stunning Valley: The picturesque Great Rift Valley stands majestically as a backdrop to the town, giving it a magical scenario.  The gorge is dotted with dozens of attractions that draw tourists to it.  The Cherangani Hills are inside the valley, and to the west of the Lake, Baringo is where the Tugen Hills is located.  The Tugen Hills contain fossils that have been preserved in lava flows for millions of years.
  • The Volcanoes Sites: A chain of volcanoes have their homes around the Great Rift Valley, and some of these volcanoes are still active.  Andisols, which are fertile soils seen around recent volcanic activities are found here. Lake Turkana has volcanoes while the shield volcano Emuruangogolak can be found south of Suguta. From the floor of the valley rises Paka, a shield volcano with geothermal activity.
  • The Flower Farms: around the freshwater lake are one of the popular attractions in Naivasha. The lake shores are surrounded by the flower farms, thatch houses, and old colonial houses. The scenic landscape of the lake is dotted with massive white strips of nylon polytunnels filled with beautiful roses.  The beauty of the flower plantations has made the town one of the romantic places to visit in Kenya. The flower farming destroyed the original migratory paths, which had been restored by Naturalist, Joan Root.
  • Abundant Birdlife: Naivasha is home to over 450 unique bird species including migratory birds.  The most prominent birds are the pelicans, cormorants and the African fish eagles. Naivasha is strategically located in a place where wildlife activity is plentiful. The Hell’s Gate National park is major attraction located south of Lake Naivasha with a wide range of things to do and see. The national park features rugged scenery, exotic birds, and animals such as the hippos, boars, monkeys, zebras, and antelopes.  Flamingos, kingfishers, the fish eagles, and pelicans are abundant in this park.  If you love climbing and hiking, cycling or even riding a horse, you have an opportunity to explore the surroundings.

Water Attractions

Lake Naivasha is a wonderland surrounded by yellow acacia trees. The freshwater -lake offers various water activities and boat rides, and in the night, you can camp next to it.  There are the Ol-Karia geothermal power projects that attract visitors to it. The projects use hot springs in generating power.  From a distance, the dormant volcanic Mount Longonot with its deep crater in the middle can be seen.

A 15-minute boat ride to Crescent Island should not be overlooked when you are around Lake Naivasha. The island is one of the beautiful places where you can take a stroll alongside wildlife animals such as giraffes and wildebeests. The green coloured alkaline Crater Lake is where you can enjoy a game walk, you will see several animals such as zebras, giraffes, birds, elands and buffaloes in this sanctuary.

Dining and Dietary Considerations

Naivasha is not disappointing when it comes to a variety of dining opportunities. Mothers kitchen Cafe is one of best cafes to eat in town, offering Swahili, African and the local dishes.  You can hang out at the Ranch House Bistro, offering seasonal la carte menu to its guests.  It makes use of the wood-burning oven to produce Italian pizzas.

La Belle Inn is the only place you can eat steak, chips, pizza and other European meals. It is a popular restaurant with a relaxed bar where you can order chilled drinks.  You’ll find the famous Rift Valley Spur Steak Ranch restaurant in the Buffalo, a South African chain where you can enjoy a wide range of salads, burgers and sumptuous speciality steaks.

Religious and Cultural considerations

Christians mostly dominate Naivasha, but the country features a wide range of religions. Islam, Hinduism, and Sikhism are some of the other religions that are practised in Naivasha.
