Lake Naivasha is a serene freshwater located at the highest elevation of the Great Rift Valley in Kenya at 1,884 metres. The lake is fed by the perennial Malewa and Gilgil rivers with no visible outlet. It’s home to a wide range of wildlife including a large population of hippopotamus and a variety of bird species.

Elsamere Conservation Centre

Located at the shores of Lake Naivasha, Elsamere Conservation Centre features a wide array of wildlife and birdlife. Elsamere was formerly home to Joy and George Adamson who are committed to wildlife conservation. The conservation centre features a small museum where you can learn more about the lake ecology here.

Crater Lake Game Sanctuary

This is a small private sanctuary situated around a volcanic crater lake surrounded by forests and plains with a variety of wildlife.  You can watch the birds or go for nature walks at the Crater Lake Game Sanctuary.

Crescent Island

This is a wildlife sanctuary that offers an opportunity to walk with animals and enjoy a boat safari. There are no predators in the island sanctuary; you will see animals like giraffes, zebras and wildebeest.

Lake Oloiden

Lake Oloiden is a volcanic crater lake popularly known for its impressive flock of flamingos. You can also take a boat ride on the lake.

Hells Gate

The nearby Hell’s Gate National Park is well worth a visit, to see its spectacular canyons, hot springs and wildlife, as is Born Free author Joy Adamson’s house.
