Fly with RwandaAir

A look inside RwandAir

Rwandair regularly scores high with its luxurious interiors and comfortable seats. However, the airline is set apart from some other airlines with its customer friendly touches – from in-flight entertainment to flight crew.

RwandAir has grown to be an African powerhouse with the extensive routes it services and has continued to grow since its launch 15 years ago.

Important information for passengers

The flag carrier airline of Rwanda, RwandAir Limited, offers international as well as domestic services to the Middle East and Europe, in addition to Central, East and West Africa. This 2002 born airline, with its base at Kigali International Airport in Kigali, today covers a total of 21 destinations. RwandAir codeshares with some major airlines – Brussels Airlines, South African Airways, Ethiopian Airlines and Turkish Airlines.

With 99% of its shares with the Government of Rwanda, the airline sure may be called a public airline. The government did consider privatizing the airline but the plans had to be dropped in 2008 when it realized that the sale wouldn’t earn them the expected profit.

Baggage Allowance

RwandAir has the following baggage allowances for passengers:

Checked Baggage

The baggage allowed for business class passengers is 2 pieces of 32 kgs per head. For economy class, passengers are allowed 2 pieces of 23 kgs. Extra baggage may be allowed for a certain sum, which differs from region to region, destination to destination, and/or region to destination or the other way round. The prices may also vary depending upon the aircraft used.

Carry-on Luggage

A passenger flying to any destination other than Johannesburg is allowed to carry only one bag with them weighing 21 lbs [10kgs] and measuring 22x15x8 inches [55x38x20 cm] – this bears no cost. The baggage weight allowance for Johannesburg passengers is, however, restricted to 15lbs [7kgs]. Luggage weighing or measuring more than the mentioned limits are charged by the authority.
