Distance and Flight Time
You are in for a treat: one of the most scenic short flights in the world awaits you as take the 126km (78 mile) hop across the Zanzibar channel to Zanzibar’s Abeid Karume International Airport. Depending on the plane type used, you’ve between 30 and 65 minutes to soak up the splendour.
Not to miss during flights
Heading south southeast, you’ll have had a glimpse of Yambe island off your left shoulder, cross the coast south of Karange Island, with Pemba Island due west some 50km (30 miles) away.
⅓ distance covered sees the small town of Pangani sitting at its river mouth off to the left of the plane.
Approaching Zanzibar, itself visible on the left hand side of the nose, watch the colours of the sea change, as depth, corals, rocks and sea bottom type influence the light. Tumbatu island and the eastern shores of Zanzibar (official name Unguja) appear, with the shore line guiding you down to Zanzibar Town and the airport.
