Travel, personal effects and medical insurance guidelines

Many a great holiday and journey has been spoiled by those unforseen but easily guarded against mishaps. Whilst these dampen the sprit, they need not be the cause of lasting, bad tasting memories.

You’ve chosen East Africa as you have an adventurous spirit. Take the time to cover yourself against unexpected misfortune.

Travel Insurance

Many fabulous holidays are ruined not only by the loss of personal effects, but by not having the right insurance. Let your memories not be dulled unnecessarily. Good insurance should be seen as part of the journey.

Medical Insurance

As with all travel outside of one’s own country or common policy area (eg: European Union), it is strongly advised to purchase medical insurance for each person in the group.

Medical attention can be extremely expensive, especially hospitalisation. It will be necessary for you to consider a policy with medical evacuation cover as some of the areas you may visit are remote. Additionally, depending on the circumstances, evacuation to a center / city / country able to treat the condition may be necessary.

Gadgets, Cameras, PCs / Laptops and Personal effects

When travelling to East Africa it is wise to invest some money into a good travel insurance, just like you would going on holiday to any other location. One that might save you thousands of dollars if something doesn’t go as planned.

Make sure the insurance you select covers the things you intend to do and the things you plan to bring. It is no good to have a travel insurance that doesn’t cover diving if you plan to check out some of the underwater beauty in East Africa. Or if you want to bring your expensive camera, but your insurance doesn’t cover your camera equipment, let alone your mobile devices and laptops..

If you travel a few times a year it might be worth looking into a yearlong travel insurance where you are covered for the entire year. They are usually not very expensive compared to buying individual policies.
